The new generation of Bollywood stars often consider the veterans to be their role models or inspiration. It might be due to the emotional plays or the sheer dedication and passion towards the job that most actors nowadays strive hard to achieve perfection. And perhaps this could be the reason that Alia Bhatt went to SRK, Bollywood’s King of Romance to learn about romantic moves for the song “Tum Kya Mile”.
Karan Johar’s recent movie, Rocky Aur Ranii Ki Prem Kahani has created a buzz in the entertainment industry. Both the protagonists, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh have received a whopping number of appreciations and positive feedback from some of the biggest stars of the industry and their fans. Even though the movie witnesses Alia as a completely new character, her sheer dedication to acting could be seen overflowing throughout. The same goes for Ranveer too!
Tum Kya Mile, one of the most listened to songs from Rocky Aur Ranii Ki Prem Kahani is the manifestation of the dreamy romance that Bollywood first experienced with none other than Shah Rukh and Kajol. When Karan Johar was asked about his thoughts on the success of this song, he clearly said that he never had doubts. Rather, he was convinced that the ode paid to one of the evergreen songs of Bollywood, Ho Gaya Hai Tujhko Toh Pyaar Sajna through this new-aged song will warm the hearts of the viewers and transport them back to that era of romance.
Vaibhavi Merchant, a noteworthy Bollywood choreographer, told the press in one of her interviews that Tum Kya Mile shares an uncanny resemblance with the romantic songs from the 90s and 2000s. She also added how she doubted its success, seeing that both the star casts had to portray romance in a dreamy manner. The shooting posed a challenge to Ranveer specifically because he had never lip-synced any song, except one from Gunday with his co-star, Priyanka Chopra. Besides, his rowdy and bold look somehow created a hindrance in bringing out that dreamy looks Shah Rukh and Kajol always had during romantic songs.
Merchant further revealed that Alia herself went to meet Shah Rukh to learn more about emotional displays during the song shooting. It wasn’t easy for her too as the last romantic song she shot that demanded such a level of intricate acting was Ishq Wala Love from her first film. So, understanding the dynamics of shooting a dreamy romantic song with immersive emotions from the King of Romance himself sounded more feasible to Alia Bhatt.
On top of everything, Vaibhavi Merchant is also to be praised since she made the dream come true for all the viewers. Seeing how both Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt are nowhere near to the veteran actors, SRK and Kajol in terms of shooting romantic songs, the choreographer had to put extra efforts. At last, she succeeded in creating such a masterpiece that Bollywood hasn’t witnessed since ages.
